FAFSA

 

At 12:01am on October 1, 2017, the 2018-19 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Iowa Financial Aid Application will become available to students, 3 months earlier than the traditional January 1 timeframe.  In addition, the newly developed Iowa Financial Aid Application made its debut.

 

The 2018-19 Iowa Financial Aid Application is available on the Iowa College Aid website (www.iowacollegeaid.gov), or directly at https://icaps.iowacollegeaid.gov/ICAPS/ApplicationProcess/ApplicationMainPage.aspx.  

 

Application deadlines for state scholarship/grant programs in 2018-19 are available on the Iowa College Aid website: https://www.iowacollegeaid.gov/content/state-grants-scholarships.

 

 

  • Complete the FAFSA to be considered for need-based state and federal financial aid.
  • The 2018-19 FAFSA can be completed beginning October 1, 2017 at www.fafsa.gov.

Raise ME

Through a new program called raise.me, your student can automatically earn scholarships from colleges each time he or she achieves any of the following goals in school:

  • Get an A in a course  ($100 - $1,000)

  • Get a B in a course ($50 - $600)

  • Participate in a school club or sport ($25 - $250)

  • And much more

Our school is among the first in the country to take advantage of this opportunity, which is funded in part by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and U.S. colleges.  High school students will be given information about raise.me and the opportunity to create an account during their STAR (advisory) time.

Here is how you can best support your student to get the most from this opportunity:

  1. Ensure that your student creates an account at www.raise.me.

  2. Congratulate your student for regularly adding good grades, community service, extracurricular activities, and other achievements to his or her raise.me “Portfolio” in order to earn “Micro-Scholarships” from colleges.  Your student is eligible to receive scholarship money for each achievement from the start of 9th grade until midway through 12th grade.  

  3. Visit www.raise.me/parents for more information.

We hope using raise.me will make your student’s path to college both more fun and affordable.

Colleges are added on a monthly basis and you can request colleges at any time.  Your student will automatically get related Micro-Scholarships from all new colleges as they become available.

Iowa students and families can participate in three free college funding programs offered by Iowa Student Loan®during the 2017–2018 school year. Each program promotes essential concepts in saving for and financing college for all participants.

 
 
 
 

Oct. 23–Feb. 16: Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship

  • Open to: Iowa high school seniors who will attend college in fall 2018.
  • Awards: Thirty $2,000 college scholarships plus $500 to each recipient's high school.
  • Requirements: Register online and then follow emailed instructions to complete two online components and a related assessment. Essays may be required as a tiebreaker.

March 5–May 11: College Funding Forecaster Giveaway

  • Open to: Iowa high school students and their parents or guardians.
  • Awards: Weekly drawings for educational expense awards plus two college scholarships for high school seniors attending college in fall 2018.
  • Requirements: Complete the College Funding Forecaster tool to estimate total college costs over four years and enter contact information to register.

MICHELLE RIMA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Michelle Rima Memorial Scholarship Inc will be awarding multiple $1,000 scholarships once again to Starmont High School graduates who plan to further his or her education.

Applicants must:

  • Be a current graduating Starmont senior
  • Plan to attend college, university, community college or junior college
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Be active in school activities and of good moral character
  • APPLY BY MARCH 1, 2018
  • Not be an officer or a child of any officer of the Michelle Rima Memorial Scholarship Inc

JANUARY

 

Mensa Education & Research Foundation Scholarship

Central Iowa Mensa is participating in the Mensa Education & Research Foundation's local scholarship program and we invite applications for scholarships in this year's program.

The only eligibility requirements are that the applicant will be enrolled in a degree program in an accredited American institution of post-secondary education in the 2018-2019 academic year, and that the applicant is a citizen or a permanent resident of the United States.  For the general awards, the applicant need not be a member of Mensa nor qualified for Mensa.  The general awards are unrestricted regarding age, race, gender, major, GPA, financial need, etc.; some special scholarships do have specific criteria.

Awards will be made on the basis of an essay of fewer than 550 words, which describes the applicant's career, vocational, or academic goal toward which the scholarship is to provide aid.  Entries will be judged and awarded at three levels: local, regional, and national. Awards are made in amounts ranging from $500 to $2,500.

FEBRUARY

 

For 2018 Iowa Corn will award 16 one-year scholarships at $1,000 each to qualified students enrolled at an accredited U.S. two-year or four-year junior college, college or university, or graduate school, in a program of study to equip them in contributing to Iowa agriculture.

America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, is offering more than $500,000 in scholarships to high school seniors and college students pursuing an ag-related field of study. Students can apply for a $1,500 scholarship now through February 1, with farmers able to endorse applications through February 8.
 
For graduating students, there are nearly 60,000 job openings in agriculture*– but many aren’t aware of the diverse opportunities. So, we’re asking farmers like you to help spread the word about this great scholarship by:

MARCH

 

IAS SCHOLARSHIP

Innovative Ag Services is pleased to announce that the 2018 Scholarship application is now available! IAS will select six recipients to receive a $1000 Ag Scholarship. All applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2018 to be considered. The guidelines for the 2018 scholarship are below.

Criteria:
 Parent or guardian must be an active patron of Innovative Ag Services, having purchased production supplies from the cooperative or sold grain to the cooperative within the past year.
 Student must be a graduating high school senior who will be majoring in an agricultural related field of study.
 Student must attend an accredited college or university.
 Applicant must enroll as a full-time student.
 Three of the scholarships will be issued to those attending a two year college with an Agricultural Major. The remaining three scholarships will be awarded to those attending a 4 year college with an Agricultural Major.

Friedman Scholarship
This application will also be entered into the Friedman Scholarship pool. This $1000 scholarship is sponsored by Innovative Ag Services’ retired CEO, Jack Friedman, and will be awarded to an individual that shows exceptional leadership qualities as well as a desire to make a difference in his or her respective field.


Deadline: March 1, 2018 – Application must be postmarked by this date.
